About the club
Urchfont Tennis Club is a friendly village club welcoming players of all ages and abilities.
Our story
The Urchfont Tennis Club was formally established in 1970, but its roots go further back. A small group of village enthusiasts had been playing on a single grass court tucked behind the gardens of the houses next to Urchfont Primary School — on what is now the vehicular access to the school.
When the club was formed in 1970 it had just one tarmacadam surface court. In 1990, members raised over £9,000 through grants and fund-raising to build a second court alongside the first. Both remain in full use today.
The land the courts sit on was originally owned by Wiltshire Council. When Urchfont Manor was sold, ownership transferred to Urchfont Parish Council, who are now the club's landlords.
In the past four years members have invested over £50,000 in the club — refurbishing the courts, opening a brand-new clubhouse with changing and toilet facilities, and adding a third 'Red' court for our youngest players up to 9 years old. This was only possible thanks to members' subscriptions and grants from Sport England, the Scarecrow Festival and the Parish Council, who allowed the club to extend its footprint.

Membership
Who can join
Full membership is open to anyone living, working or at school in the parishes of Urchfont, Wedhampton and Eastcott. The constitution also allows a limited number of temporary members from outside the parish, managed by the committee so that local membership is never squeezed out.
Annual subscriptions for the current season are Family £120, Single Adult £90 and Single Junior £20, set each year at the AGM.

A members' club, run by its members
The Urchfont Tennis Club is a non-profit members' club, constituted in 1970. It is managed by an elected committee of four to eight members — including a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer — confirmed each year at the Annual General Meeting, held between March and April.
All monies raised are used to maintain and improve the club's facilities for the benefit of its members. No surplus is ever distributed to individuals — that's written into our constitution.
